According to consulting firm Sigmaintell, the supply of global LCD TV panels in the first quarter of 2018 is expected to be slightly higher than the demand, and prices for some panel sizes may bottom out.
In the first quarter of 2018, the demand for LCD panels from brand TV makers is expected to drop by 13%, but is expected to increase by 3.1% year-on-year, mainly due to the conservative attitude of Japanese and South Korean TV makers to buying TV panels during the quarter. This offsets the relatively aggressive buying trend from Chinese competitors.
On the other hand, due to the reduction in the working days of some panel makers and the implementation of the annual maintenance plan, TV panel unit shipments in the first quarter are expected to decrease by 7.7% in a row, and regional shipments are expected to decline by 2%.
Due to oversupply, prices for 32-inch panels are expected to fall sharply in the first quarter, while panel prices for 40-inch to 43-inch panels will decline slightly. 49-inch and 50-inch panel prices will continue to fall, but the price gap between the two panels will narrow. At the same time, due to BOE's new capacity, it is expected that the price of the 65-inch panel will be frustrated.
