The flexibility and control of medical robots are favored by physicians

Hospitals such as BartsHealthNHSTrust, RoyalLondonHospital and StBartholomew'sHospital have officially introduced DaVinciSurgicalSystem. Doctors believe that robotic surgery can make patients who have not been able to undergo surgery in the past get the chance of surgery, the prognosis is better and the wounds left are also smaller.

According to reports, a total of 7 departments of the above hospitals will use the Da Vinci surgical system sponsored by the BartsCharity organization for the patient's surgery. The system is also the only special robot in the UK to treat the heart, lungs and chest. The doctor uses the computer host next to the patient to operate and move the robot arm that holds the surgical instrument to perform surgery. In addition to using the hand and foot to control the robot on the host, the doctor also has a medical team to observe the operation next to the patient. .

This new robot allows patients to undergo minimally invasive surgery and leaves only small incisions instead of large incisions. Some of the past surgeries were considered too risky, but robots could achieve results that resulted in less bleeding, less pain, faster recovery, and faster patient discharge.

Doctors are also quite certain of Da Vinci's surgical system that they can provide flexibility and control. The reason is that robots can rotate their arms 360 degrees in seven dimensions, far more than human doctors.

Physician Kelvin Lau said that because many people were physically weak and unable to perform surgical operations, such as some cancer cases, the only option in the past was only radiation therapy that was not as effective as surgery. However, the Da Vinci surgical system expanded the number of patients who could undergo surgery and it was not easy. Patients who come into contact with the tumor are particularly effective.

RoyalLondon Hospital plans to use the Da Vinci surgical system for 500 patients each year by 2020 and applies 6 departments including gynaecology, urology, colorectal, hepatobiliary, transplantation and head and neck surgery. Robotic surgery is not the first pioneering technique used by St Bartholomew's Hospital. In October 2017, Virtual Reality (VR) helped doctors around the world perform surgery for a cancer patient at the Royal London Hospital.
