Causes of multiple ears of corn

In recent years, multi-spike phenomenon in maize production occurs frequently. The occurrence area of different varieties, regions, and varieties is different. The degree of occurrence of the same region and different varieties is also different. The multi-spike phenomenon causes different degrees of loss to corn production. The reasons are mainly the following five aspects:

First, from the corn's reproductive law, the female ear, also known as ear, panicle inflorescence. In addition to the upper five stems of the stems in the corn, there are axillary buds at the leafhoppers of each section in the lower part, that is, the ear base, if the external conditions are appropriate, there may be formation of the ear, but usually the upper sixth, seventh, and eighth Axillary buds of the section can develop fruit spikes.

Second, abnormal climatic conditions are the main cause of multiple ears. The corn is of tropical origin, and it is a short-day crop. Under abnormal climatic conditions, especially in the stage of male-male ear differentiation, in case of continuous rain, insufficient light, resulting in malnutrition, poor silky sporulation of females, or abnormal flowering of tassels. Loose powder, affect pollination, resulting in the first ear can not be a normal spike. Therefore, the extra nutrient supply will develop the next ear. If the second ear still fails to obtain normal pollination, nutrition will provide the next development of the ear. Even if the ear develops normally in the later period, no pollen can be granted in the field. Therefore, a multi-spike phenomenon has been formed.

Third, the ear development stage of large water is another reason for the formation of multiple ears of corn. In the ear development stage of maize, if the water and fertilizer supply is too large, excessive nutrients make the plant unable to consume, and there is a possibility of forming multiple spikes.

Fourth, pests and diseases can also lead to more than one ear. Damages such as corn borer, aphids, and corn leaf spot disease can also affect the normal formation of corn ear, resulting in multiple spikes.

Fifth, different varieties of different areas to adapt to the requirements of the cultivation conditions are also different, can not engage in one size fits all. Otherwise, there is the possibility of multiple spikes. Therefore, according to local conditions, according to the characteristics of the species, determine the appropriate cultivation measures.
