Christie's, the leading auction house, partnered with H. Moser & Cie to support Swiss watchmaking. The two companies have entered into a partnership: Each year, one of the watches from the Swiss Watch series will be auctioned off. The proceeds of the auction will be donated to the Fondation pour la Culture Horlogère Suisse, whose president is Georges-Henri Meylan, chairman of MELB Holding. In the coming May 2017, Christie's will auction the first prototype of the Swiss Alp Watch and the only Swiss Mad Watch launched by Henry Murthy at the 2016 and 2017 Geneva International Advanced Watch Fair (SIHH) respectively.
The long-lasting cooperation between Henry Mussoorie and Christie's marks the beginning of a fate of these two centuries-old enterprises with the same entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to beauty and professionalism as well as respect for both Customer demand. Henry Mohs has decided to create a special watch every year, then launched at the Geneva International Watch Fair and commissioned Christie's to sell the highest bidder. The proceeds of the auction will be donated to the Fondation pour la Culture Horlogère Suisse.
The foundation has two main objectives: to support education and training in the watchmaking industry and to protect the expertise of the relevant art industry. "It is extremely important to protect our Swiss watchmaking tradition," explained Georges-Henri Mellon, president of the Foundation. "It is vital to the survival of our industry as a whole and we must work together to ensure that our vast expertise is preserved and continues to grow in the following areas where we excel: the outstanding mechanical watchmaking."
The initial prototypes of Swiss Mad Watch and Swiss Alp Watch will be auctioned by Christie's in May 2017. The former sincerely conveyed Henry Muhammad's voice: to elevate the image of Switzerland and to obtain a revised and reevaluated more stringent standard for the label "Made in Switzerland" (Swiss Made). The latter is made of rhodium-plated brass, inspired by the modern design of a smart watch, but at the heart of which is 100% purely mechanical. "Swiss Mad Watch and the Make Swiss Made Great Again campaign, as well as the Swiss Alp Watch and the 'Upgrade to a Mechanical Watch' campaign, immediately attracted us," said Thomas Paladz, Christie's Geneva-based watch division director Thomas Perazzi) said. "We place a great deal of tradition and integrity on the protection of master craftsmanship and we are excited to work with Henry Mousse to communicate their ideas to a wider audience and to expand our influence in our own way."
Swiss Mad Watch and Swiss Alp Watch will also be part of a rare world of watches and clocks on display around the world before being auctioned in major cities around the world. When the auction gavel falls, all proceeds will be donated to the Fondation pour la Culture Horlogère Suisse, where the fund manages the distribution of funds.
